Mr. John S. Louie, Distinguished Guest Speaker at Induction Day 2020

It was a pleasure to welcome Mr John S. Louie on campus on the occasion of two induction events, the first welcoming first year students, and the second addressing the third year returning Bachelor’s students.

Mr John S. Louie most recently served as the General Manager at the 5* Doha Marriott Hotel in Qatar and has over 40 years global experience in the hospitality industry.   He has worked at 12 different Marriott properties in countries such as USA, Puerto Rico, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Greece.  He further had temporary assignments at another 9 properties and assisted at hotels in 5 continents and over 14 countries.

The speeches he delivered did not only inspire the students, but they also infused them with a zeal to become the future leaders of our industry.  Sharing with them his vast and fascinating experience in the hospitality industry, the career paths he has taken with Marriott Hotels and the opportunities his journey has given him was extremely motivating especially to the returning students who will be ready to embark on their careers at the end of this academic year.

The students were most appreciative of Mr Louie’s advice to them as to what he as Property General Manager would be looking for in hiring the future leaders in the industry.  Especially at these challenging times imposed by COVID-19, the students needed to hear Mr Louie speak about the industry being in a transition of re-structuring, re-strategizing and re-energizing to overcome the challenges and move on to a new reality and a world of new opportunities. He ended by wishing all students a very successful academic year and career, and reminded them of Mr. Williard J. Marriott’s key principle: “Take care of your associates and they will take care of the guests”!
