The hospitality industry has become keenly aware of women’s abilities to lead and we at Alpine Center are proud of all our female graduates who have obtained leadership roles in Greece and internationally. Katerina Konstantopoulou is a dynamic young lady who manages a beautiful property, Luna Santorini Suites set in the traditional village of Pyrgos, Santorini — one of the top destinations in the world. We recently sat down with Katerina in Santorini to ask her about her experience of studying at Alpine Center, what advice she can give to young students who wish to embark on this exciting career and her favourite destinations.
Katerina, please share with us your experience of studying at Alpine Center and how your studies have helped you in managing your hotel in Santorini?
Studying at Alpine Center was the passport to the world of tourism and hospitality. The MA degree helped me acquire vital skills, both research and practical, which were later implemented into the actual business as a hotel manager. My previous studies had to do with International and European Relations, so the year which I spent at Alpine was my first contact with tourism. I believe it was the best way to kickstart my career and to become part of an evolving industry.
As a young woman managing a hotel, what advice can you give to graduates who wish to follow in your footsteps?
In an increasingly competitive environment, success is not always about making an immediate impact. The path to senior leadership is built on patience, perspective, and sustained motivation. The industry needs young professionals that stand out from the crowd. Value this opportunity and be persistent, adaptable and passionate. Don’t be in a hurry to climb the ladder but always have a vision.
What type of clientele does Luna Santorini Suites attract and what makes it unique from other hotels on the island?
Luna Santorini Suites is built on the traditional settlement of the medieval village of Pyrgos. The village does not offer direct caldera view and is not one of the most touristic places of the island (like Oia and Fira). However, our clientele is high end, our guests are coming to explore this exact part of Santorini, that has maintained its authenticity and traditional Cycladic character.
At Luna Suites, we focus on the experience! We want our guests to feel at home, not just to visit Santorini as tourists but to feel the vibe of the island. The property’s atmosphere is coupled with all modern comforts and a service focused on flexibility and personal touch.
Can you share with us a few tips on what can someone do in Santorini which is off the beaten track and not very touristy?

A visit to Oia after 21:30 especially under the full moon – a visit to the Atlantis bookstore is a must, if you are lucky, they organize poetry nights on the terrace under the full moon

Where do you like to go for holidays?
Due to the nature of my business – the properties are open from March till November and during winter I am attending several tourism expos and travel markets over the world as a representative of Santorini in the South Aegean booth – I only have a few days to go on actual holidays. However, if I had time, I would like to visit Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Bali, Hong Kong and Singapore) and for sure some tropical paradise, in order to enjoy the beach and sea without the stress of the season.
